MARION COUNTY, IL — A 19-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Thursday in federal court to 78 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon.

Chris Jamison pleaded guilty in December to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson, Jamison has an extensive history of violent incidents and is a known member of the Rude Boy criminal street gang.  Jamison will be required to serve a minimum of 85% of his sentence before being eligible for supervised release due to his history.

The conviction is the result of an incident that occurred on March 1st 2021 where an officer observed Jamison and another subject were walking in the 200 block of S. Maple St.  At the time, both subjects were being sought by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department in connection with an armed robbery.  The Centralia officer attempted to make contact and both subjects fled on foot and were apprehended shortly thereafter.  Officers recovered a firearm that had been discarded during the foot pursuit.  DNA tests were conducted on the weapon and the DNA recovered was identified as belonging to Jamison.

Due to Jamison’s violent history and gang affiliation, this case was presented to the U.S. Attorney by officers of the Centralia Police who are assigned to the Safe Streets Task Force.  Which resulted in yesterday’s conviction.

The Centralia Police Department’s participation in these State and Federal Task Forces and our partnership and cooperation with various Federal agencies, most importantly the U. S. Attorney’s Office out of East St Louis, has been invaluable in combating this type of crime in Centralia.
