ROXANA, Ill. (AP) — A southwestern Illinois village and its school and parks districts will be getting portions of a $10.6-million settlement with a refining company. The (Alton) Telegraph reports the Roxana school district will get nearly $8.5 million, while the Madison County village of Roxana will get $1.8 million. Roxana’s community park district will get more than $298,000. The money comes from last month’s settlement between those taxing bodies and WRB Refining over a dispute over property tax money involving the refinery. The school district’s superintendent, Debra Kreutztrager, says the school system will use the money for such things as construction of a junior high gymnasium and additions to various elementary schools.
