FRANKLIN COUNTY — The Franklin County Board got an update regarding construction at the Campbell Building on the Benton Square at Monday night’s meeting.

Offices are currently being construction for the County Clerk, County Treasurer and Circuit Clerk along with courtrooms at the Campbell Building. Once the new courthouse is completed in a couple of years, the Circuit Clerk and the courts will move back with the County Clerk and County Treasurer staying permanently in the Campbell Building.

County Board Chairman Randall Crocker says the board hired Comm Squad of Lebanon, Illinois Monday night to wire the phones and date cables for the facility for $29,960.

Crocker says crews are set to pour concrete on the deck of the first floor of the small addition to the Campbell Building today. The elevator will arrive on Dec. 11. After it arrives, the roof will go on the addition and it will be finished.

Crocker feels the contractor will meet the deadline of Dec. 20 for work to be completed and have the remaining offices and courtrooms moved over from the courthouse to the Campbell Building by late January.

As for the demolition of the current courthouse, Crocker believes that will get underway in late winter. New courthouse construction is expected to begin sometime in the summer and take 14 months to complete. It’s scheduled to open sometime in late 2021.
