A Royalton man was sentenced Monday in Williamson County Court for theft.
According to Williamson County State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti, 28-year-old James R. Burnett pled guilty to one count of theft – a Class 3 felony – in August 2015 stemming from an April 2015 arrest in Cambria.
A Williamson County judge Monday revoked Burnett’s probation and sentenced him to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Burnett will also serve one year of mandatory supervised release following his release from prison.
On April 10, 2015, Burnett stole $3,000 in cash from a Cambria home. Burnett subsequently violated his probation by failing to appear and pay fines. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.
The investigation was handled by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State’s Attorney Sean DeMello led the prosecution of this case.
