WEST FRANKFORT — Franklin County Entrepreneurial Development, Growth and Education, or EDGE for short, held a kickoff for the program Monday in West Frankfort.

The program is geared toward juniors and seniors in each Franklin County high school and is designed to provide these students with an entrepreneurial spirit with the skills necessary to be successful in the 21stCentury world of business. The program wants and needs young people to become business owners and community leaders in Franklin County instead of somewhere else.

Students meet with business owners and tour businesses throughout the county, network with guest speakers, create a class business, write business plans and start their own business which is highlighted through a business expo at the end of the year.

EDGE is a not-for-profit program funded by donations from county business owners and local individuals who believe in the future of our young people. It is coordinated by a volunteer board that is also devoted to the youth of the county.

EDGE is in need of guest speakers and businesses to visit students in Franklin County.
