JEFFERSON COUNTY — A semi-truck breakdown Monday afternoon resulted in Interstate 64 being closed between Ashley and Mt. Vernon and traffic detoured for almost two hours.

According to the Illinois State Police, around 1:19 p.m., Monday, troopers responded to I-64 eastbound near Shiloh Drive for a truck-tractor semi-trailer that broke down in the roadway and required a tow.

A separate truck-tractor carrying an over-sized load was unable to pass the broken down truck and traffic was temporarily blocked as a result.

The broken-down truck was towed from the scene and all traffic resumed normally by approximately 2:48 p.m.
