Mary Lou Shopinski, 72, of Ashley, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 4:55 am May 5, 2023 at her residence.

She was born April 22, 1951 in Centralia, Illinois to the late John and Dorothy (Smith) Quale. Mary married David Shopinski on April 15, 1969 in Ashley.

They just celebrated 54 years of marriage.

In addition to her beloved husband, Mary is survived by her daughter, Shannon Brehm and husband, Tom of Ashley; sons, Charles Shopinski and significant other, Michelle of Ashley, and Denie Shopinski and wife, Kay of Robertsville, Missouri; grandchildren, Rylin Brehm, Axton Brehm, and Aryssa Brehm, all of Ashley, Phoenix Townsend and husband, Joey of Carlyle, Illinois, Emma Shopinski of Ashley, and Cotter Shopinski and Ayla Shopinski, both of Robertsville, Missouri; great-grandchild, Korbin Townsend of Carlyle; sister, Ronnie Cervantes and husband, Louis of California; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her grandson, Alek Shopinski; sons, Michael Shopinski and Brian Shopinski; brother, John “Butch” Quale; and half-brothers, Jim Lamar and Bob Lamar. Mary’s passion was staying home and taking care of her babies. She babysat for other families, but most importantly, she watched over her grandchildren. They were the light of her life.

Mary will be missed by all who knew and cared for her.
