MARION, Ill. — The Marion, Illinois Police Department announced the arrest of a 44-year-old Mississippi man found during a traffic stop to be transporting three large bags of cannabis in his vehicle Monday morning.

According to the police department, a Marion police officer stopped William A. Davis, of Lexington, Mississippi, for allegedly speeding in a southbound Interstate 57 construction zone.

As officers were talking with the vehicle’s driver, they reportedly noticed a large plastic bag in the rear of the vehicle that appeared to be cannabis.

A further investigation reportedly revealed three large bags containing nearly 83 pounds of cannabis, 30 bottles of THC syrup, and 40 vape pens.

Davis was taken to the Williamson County Jail where he is pending a court appearance.

Marion Police remind the public that while cannabis is legal in Illinois, restrictions remain.

If you’re an Illinois resident over the age of 21, you’re legally allowed to possess five grams of cannabis concentrate, up to 500 milligrams of products infused with THC, 30 grams of cannabis flower in a sealed, odor-proof, child-proof, authorized dispensary container.

If you are not a resident of Illinois, you are allowed to hold half of those amounts in the state.
