INA, IL — A Tuesday morning fire has destroyed a home in Ina and claimed the life of the family dog.

According to the Jefferson County Fire District, flames were shooting from the home when they arrived around 5:45 a.m. Jefferson County Fire District firemen say fire was shooting from the roof and three sides upon their arrival. Daniel Montgomery was the only person in the home at the time of the fire. He was able to escape the home before firefighters arrived but suffered some minor smoke inhalation. He was treated at the scene. The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to try and determine the cause of the fire.

Benton, Mt. Vernon City, Bluford, and Waltonville provided mutual aid at the scene while Kell and Wayne City firefighters stood by at the Jefferson County Fire District Station in the event of another fire.
