MT. VERNON, IL — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is helping to keep other criminal justice officers in the community safer.

According to Sheriff Jeff Bullard, his office was approached by employees of the Jefferson County Probation Department seeking help with acquiring ballistic vests. Bullard says part of a probation officer’s job is to make home visits with their clients, which sometimes leads to the discovery of criminal activity in high risk environments.

Sheriff Bullard agreed with the request, used safety grant funds to purchase the protective vests, and made sure each probation officer was assigned one.
