MT. VERNON, IL — A 36-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested Friday when the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office/Mt. Vernon Police Department High Risk Team served a knock and announce search warrant at a residence located at 902 George Street in Mt Vernon.

According to the MVPD Facebook page, the arrest was the result of an investigation by the Joint Narcotics Unit that revealed illegal narcotics were being sold from the residence. The residence was secured without incident and two people were detained. During a search of the residence detectives located crack cocaine, a firearm, currency and packaging materials.

After further investigation, Christopher D. McCray was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver Crack Cocaine 15-100 grams, Obstructing Justice / Destroy Evidence, and Armed Violence.
