WASHINGTON COUNTY, IL — Police in Nashville, Illinois are reporting the arrest of two people over the weekend in connection with shots fired from a vehicle on Interstate 64.

According to NPD, just after midnight Saturday, they and other Washingon County police agencies responded to a report of shots being fired from a vehicle eastbound on Interstate 64 from the 33 mile marker. While police were searching the interstate area, a separate call was received of a vehicle stuck in the yard of a home north of I-64 in Nashville. The vehicle reportedly matched the description of the shots fired suspect vehicle and NPD, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Okawville PD all responded to this area.

Upon their arrival, officers noted the vehicle appeared to be the suspect vehicle from the shots fired incident. Police reportedly had a brief standoff with the two male occupants of the vehicle as they continued to try to drive the vehicle out of the mud. Both subjects eventually complied with police and exited the vehicle where they were then taken into custody.

The passenger allegedly was found to have handgun ammunition in his pocket and a handgun was recovered within the vehicle. There was a report of a third suspect being involved that fled the area on foot but that report is now believed to be false.

The Illinois State Police later arrived on-scene and took over investigation of this incident due to the shots fired report taking place in another jurisdiction.

No further information will be released at this time.
