MCLEANSBORO, IL — The McLeansboro City Council recently approved purchasing the former More for Less property located at 508 S. Jackson Street for $55,000 to potentially put in a new City Hall building.

McLeansboro Mayor Chad May says there’s a need for a new building to have enough space to conduct city business as well as hold City Council meetings. The mayor says some have suggested renovating the part of City Hall where the fire trucks used to sit for additional space.

Mayor May says the City is looking to have a facility that is more accessible and ADA compliant for the public. The mayor also wants to have a more secure police department with adequate facilities at a new City Hall.

Mayor May says the building currently sitting on the lot will be demolished and cleaned up before any work on a new City Hall begins. There’s no timetable as to when construction will start.
