MT. VERNON, IL — Crossroads Specialty Clinic is pleased to announce the addition of two general surgeons, Scott Harad, MD, and Kevin Claffey, MD, to the general surgery team. Both general surgeons are well-known in the community and look forward to being back in Mt. Vernon. Their new office is inside the Crossroads Specialty Clinic at 209 Crossroads Place in Mt. Vernon, IL.

“We are delighted to be back in Mount Vernon,” says Dr. Harad. “We look forward to helping patients with their surgical needs.”

Dr. Harad completed medical school and his residency at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He is board-certified in general surgery and focuses on the patient’s needs to develop individualized treatment plans.

“Between Dr. Harad and I, we have been taking care of patients in southern Illinois for 35 years,” said Dr. Claffey. “Our new office is conveniently located for patients in the Mount Vernon and outlying communities to get the care they need right here.”

Dr. Claffey also completed his medical school and residency at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

General surgeons often receive referrals from primary care providers to help treat common and often painful issues like GERD, gallbladder problems, hernias, and hemorrhoids. Some of these conditions are treated laparoscopically using minimally invasive surgical techniques, resulting in less pain, minimal scarring, and, hopefully, a faster recovery.

General surgeons also provide the essential colonoscopy screening. Screening people for colon cancer with colonoscopies is essential because, in the early stages of the disease, people often do not experience symptoms. Speak with your primary care provider or a general surgeon to discuss if you have not had a recent colonoscopy. For some high-risk patients, screenings may need to start as early as age 45, and for average-risk patients, most insurances cover this screening starting at age 50.

“We are pleased to have Drs. Harad and Claffey joining our medical staff and expanding the breadth of services that Crossroads Community Hospital offers the community,” said William Davis, Chief Executive Officer at Crossroads Community Hospital.
