Suspects in Tuesday morning pursuit elude police on foot

CENTRALIA, IL — The Marion County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate following a Tuesday morning high speed chase in Centralia that ended with an unsuccessful foot pursuit in Irvington.

According to the sheriff’s department, the pursuit started on Route 161 east of Centralia where deputies reportedly clocked the vehicle driving 113 miles per hour near Byars Road. A pursuit ensued and continued to Crestwood Lane where the vehicle turned around and headed back to Route 161 before entering Interstate 57.

As the pursuit continued southbound on the Interstate, the suspect vehicle crossed the median and led deputies southbound in the northbound lanes through a construction zone before exiting at the Dix Irvington Road. The chase then headed westbound to Richview Road, where it turned south then east to Grand Road, before heading northbound on Pisque Lane southeast of Irvington. It was there that the vehicle pulled into a driveway of a home where two subjects jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. Neither subject was apprehended but the vehicle was impounded.

Marion County was joined by Jefferson and Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies, State Police, and the Mt. Vernon K-9 in handling the chase and subsequent unsuccessful manhunt.
