EDWARDSVILLE, IL — Six tornadoes have now been confirmed in Illinois on Friday night. And six people were killed in the storm that hit an Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville. An investigation is underway to learn more about why the warehouse collapsed and what could have been done to prevent loss of life at the Amazon facility.

Kelly Nantel with Amazon says everyone that was in an interior room on the north side of the building survived the collapse and all the loss of life occurred on the south side of the building.

Employees were warned of the storm with minutes to take cover and Nantel says she can’t say if that would be enough time to make it from one end of the building to another.

There was not an interior room for employees to take shelter in on the south side of the building where all the fatalities took place.
