CENTRALIA, IL — An 18-year-old Centralia man was formally charged Wednesday in Marion County Court with aggravated domestic battery following his arrest Tuesday in the 100 block of East Broadway in Centralia. Jose Dominguez-Garcia is facing charges of Class 2 felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor domestic battery in connection with allegedly striking a woman in her face, choking her and then attempting to burn the woman by setting her clothes on fire.

The woman reportedly wasn’t burned in the incident but Garcia is prohibited from having any contact with her or her home. Judge Mark Stedelin scheduled a preliminary hearing and first appearance in the case for January 4.

He also set bail at $7,500 and appointed a public defender to represent the defendant in the case.
