JUNCTION CITY, IL — A 21-year-old Centralia man held off Marion and Clinton County deputies for more than three hours Thanksgiving Day when he apparently became stuck in an allegedly stolen vehicle in Junction City.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Hunter Hastings was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment after telling deputies he had ingested anti-freeze earlier in the day. The standoff began just before 10 a.m. Thursday when a property owner contacted the sheriff’s department to report someone was stuck in the mud on his private lane on West Eighth Street just outside Junction City. During the standoff, Hastings allegedly displayed a rifle and attempted to set the vehicle on fire. The car was reportedly stolen from a repair shop in the Carbondale area.

At some point Hastings put down the rifle and deputies sent in the Clinton County K9. Hastings then allegedly began to roll around on the ground before surrendering and being taken to the hospital.
