VANDALIA, IL — An autopsy has been ordered for a 29-year-old Vandalia man found dead Thursday morning in a Vandalia alley. According to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, Christopher Carroll was found unresponsive early Thursday morning in an alley at the north side of Vandalia.

Carroll was transported to the Fayette County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The coroner’s office says an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday morning at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham.

An investigation into Carroll’s death is ongoing by the Vandalia Police Department and the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
