CENTRALIA, IL — A flash explosion Friday at a Centralia manufacturing plant sent two employees to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
According to the Centralia Fire Department, just before 10 a.m., one of the employees of EFI on South Wabash was welding on a module building that was under construction when the explosion threw the welder approximately six feet in the air. A second employee in the area of the explosion was lifted off his feet, while the covering being placed on the building was blown off. Some debris was reportedly blown approximately 100 feet away. One employee was transported by ambulance while another went by private vehicle to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
There was no subsequent fire from the explosion and firefighters were only on scene for about 20 minutes.
