SALEM, IL — A 34-year-old Salem man was formally charged Thursday morning in Marion County Court with felony battery stemming from his arrest Tuesday for allegedly choking a young boy earlier this month.

Raymond Stroup was arrested at a Salem motel on Tuesday in connection with an investigation into a reported incident after a 9-year-old boy told a relative that Stroup had choked him and thrown him across a room on December 7th.

Stroup was taken to the Marion County Jail and was charged with Class 2 felony aggravated domestic battery involving choking.
