FAYETTE COUNTY, IL — After more than four hours of deliberation Friday, a Fayette County jury found a 71-year-old Mulberry Grove man guilty of two counts first-degree murder in the 2017 death of Brownstown cattleman James Skinner.

David Leroy Bright is set to be sentenced by Judge Kimberly Koester on November 10.

The case started on Monday, September 21 with jury selection and involved over four days of testimony from multiple witnesses, experts, and law enforcement.

Following the reading of the guilty verdicts by the jury on both Count 1 for first degree murder and Count 2 of first degree murder, Public Defender William Starnes had the jury polled in which all twelve jurors confirmed that their verdict was and continued to be guilty.

A motion by Fayette County State’s Attorney Josh Morrison to revoke bond was granted. Bright is remanded into the custody of the Fayette County Jail until sentencing.
