MARION COUNTY, IL — The Marion County Highway Department will be making millions of dollars worth of improvements to Green Street and Odin roads after being awarded nearly $2.5 million in federal Highway Safety Improvement Grants. More than $900,000 in local funds will go to complete both projects.

The project on Odin Road will extend ¾ of a mile north of Green Street Road and will allow for the rounding of the two 90-degree turns on that stretch, widening of the shoulder, widening of the bridge and improved signage.

The Green Street Road project will include the purchase of right-of-way to widen shoulders of a stretch from Scout Road to Central City, as well as for improvements to pavement markings, signage, rumble strips and guard rails on curves.

County officials hope construction on the projects will be completed in the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
