Herrick Man to Change Plea in First Degree Murder Case in Fayette County

FAYETTE COUNTY — A 34-year-old Herrick man is scheduled to change his “not guilty” plea next week in a Fayette County Court case charging him with attempted first-degree murder.

Trevor McCammack was arrested last September following a manhunt of several hours near Shobonier.

According to Fayette County Sheriff’s reports, they received an early morning call from a resident in rural Shobonier saying a man covered in blood showed up at his home saying he’d been shot.

When deputies arrived they found David Troxell had been shot multiple times.

Troxell was initially transported by ambulance to the Fayette County Hospital but was later transferred to a Springfield area hospital for surgery. He was ultimately released from the hospital.

Deputies ultimately tracked McCammack down to a cornfield north of a gaming bar in Shobonier and took him into custody. He’s remained in the Fayette County Jail since his arrest, with bail set at $1 million.

He was initially charged with Class X felony attempted first-degree murder, Class X felony aggravated battery with a firearm, and Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm.

However, on Wednesday, prosecutors filed a second charge of attempted first-degree murder against McCammack, and a change of plea hearing was then scheduled in the case for September 9.
