CENTRALIA, IL — Centralia police arrested a 25-year-old Salem man over the weekend in connection with an early Saturday morning incident in which shots were fired into a home in the 1000 block of North Lincoln.

According to police, they were already looking for Devon Gibbs in connection with a separate shots fired incident into the same home a week earlier. During their investigation, officers went to several homes in Centralia where Gibbs was known to frequent. After getting permission to search, he was found hiding in one of the homes and was taken into custody without incident.

He was arrested on charges of criminal damage to property, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated assault, and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the previous incident.

According to reports, the person responsible for the shooting just after midnight Saturday was apparently a passenger in a car that drove by the home and opened fire. Multiple shots hit the home, but no one was injured. A man on foot reportedly fired shots into the home the previous week. That person wasn’t located following the incident but police later identified Gibbs as a suspect. No one was hurt in that shooting either.

Both incidents involved a dispute between Gibbs and a resident of the home over a female. Anyone with information on the shootings is encouraged to contact Centralia Police.
