CENTRAL CITY, IL — Central City police are reporting the arrest of a 30-year-old man following a foot pursuit Saturday morning that ended when he apparently slipped on wet grass while fleeing officers and broke his collarbone when he landed.
According to reports, around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, officers attempted to stop a vehicle being driven by Justin Ely, of Centralia, near Charlotte and Elm. But Ely reportedly fled on foot from the vehicle.
Officers from Wamac and Centralia then joined Central City police in setting up a perimeter in the area in an effort to apprehend Ely.
He apparently slipped and fell but continued to elude officers. He was ultimately discovered hiding behind a house and was taken into custody.
Ely was transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment of his broken collarbone.
He was given a notice to appear in court on charges alleging fleeing and eluding police, driving while license revoked and resisting police.
