MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon Police Department is mourning the loss of its K9 Jax following his short battle with cancer.

According to MVPD, Jax joined the department in May of 2010 and was first handled by Captain Allen Carr.

In the Spring of 2012, K9 Jax was reassigned to Sgt Brian Huff. Sgt Huff and K9 Jax patrolled the streets of Mt Vernon until K9 Jax’s health failed and he was retired earlier this month.

The department says in a Facebook post that Jax was a dog who loved his job and excelled in all areas.
He had numerous arrests and seizures over his career and was a valued member of the department. K9 Jax was 11 years old.

K9 Jax will be laid to rest alongside other Mt Vernon Police Department K9’s at Mt Vernon Memorial Gardens. They thank Memorial Gardens for donating a burial plot.
