FAYETTE COUNTY — A 33-year-old Vandalia man was sentenced Tuesday in Fayette County Court to 5-years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a high-speed pursuit last year that started in Fayette County and ended in Effingham County.
Tyler Forbes pleaded guilty Tuesday to Class 2 felony possession of a stolen vehicle and in a separate case he pleaded guilty to a 2018 charge of Class 3 felony use of a stolen debit card.
Forbes was arrested last January following a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
After crashing the stolen vehicle he was driving, Forbes and a passenger fled on foot but were ultimately apprehended.
In addition to being arrested on the stolen vehicle charge, Forbes was arrested on charges of aggravated fleeing or eluding a police officer, driving while license suspended and leaving the scene of an accident.
All charges other than the stolen vehicle offense were dismissed per the plea agreement. After completing his prison term, Forbes will have to complete one-year mandatory supervised release.
