MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon City Council recognized the loyal service of Jim Rippy at Monday night’s meeting. Councilman Rippy turned a letter of resignation into Mayor John Lewis on September 17th citing health issues that “require my undivided attention”.

Councilman Rippy committed 30 years to Continental Tire, 25 of which were spent at the Mt. Vernon plant from it’s opening until his retirement in 1999. Mayor Lewis read a proclamation to honor Councilman Rippy before making some emotional remarks to his friend and colleague.

A larger than normal audience saw Rippy give his final address to the council from a standing position.

Rippy began his service on the council May 1st, 2017. His seat will be replaced by Legence Bank President, Joe Gliosci.
