CENTRALIA — The name of a 35-year-old Centralia man struck by a northbound Amtrak train early Wednesday morning has been released.

Joshua Flemming was reportedly walking his dog Wednesday morning near 13th and Walnut in Centralia when around 5 a.m. he was crossing the railroad tracks and was struck by the passenger train estimated to be traveling 35 mph.

The impact reportedly threw Flemming approximately 60 feet. He was initially taken to the Emergency Room at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia where he was stabilized before being airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital in critical condition.

Centralia police had noted earlier that the area where Flemming was struck was not an authorized crossing point and was marked with “no trespassing” signs. They also said the headlights, bell, and horn on the train were all functioning at the time of the incident.
