MAKANDA, IL –The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of those involved in that fatal three-vehicle crash that happened early Friday morning in Makanda.

According to the preliminary investigation from the sheriff’s office, 38-year-old Raymond Brown of Birmingham, Alabama, was driving his pickup truck south on U.S. 51, south of Makanda Road, when when it crossed the centerline and struck a van head-on driven by 47-year-old Debra Dixon of Anna.

Dixon had three passengers in her van. They were 51-year-old William Dixon of Anna, 42-year-old Charles Jackson of Anna and Dixon’s daughter, 27-year-old Anna Jackson of Anna.

Moments after the crash, another car driven by 49-year-old Laurie Yates of Cobden collided with Brown’s pickup. There were two passengers in Yates’ car. They were 33-year-old Stephanie Sherrill of Anna and 26-year-old Darryl Rayford of Mounds.

Brown was airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis hospital. Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene.  Amber Jackson was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later. William Dixon and Charles Jackson were treated at a local hospital. The occupants in Sherrill’s vehicle were not injured.

The crash is still under investigation.
