CENTRALIA — One person was transported to the hospital for treatment late Tuesday night following a fire at a home in the 300 block of West Kell in Centralia.

According to fire officials, they responded just before midnight Tuesday to a report of a residential fire at 324 West Kell.

A 16-year-old male was taken from the scene to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment of minor smoke inhalation.

The fire was reportedly contained to a wooden TV tray in a kitchen pantry where rolls of paper towels had apparently caught fire.

The fire was discovered when one of the home’s occupants smelling smoke and alerted others in the home.

The occupants had knocked down most of the fire before emergency help arrived.

The first police officer arriving on the scene made sure the rest of the fire was out, and firefighters cleared smoke from the home.
