JACKSON COUNTY — A Jackson County man is heading to prison for aggravated battery of another man.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Michael Carr announced Tuesday that 27-year-old Daniel A. Brooks will serve three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.

Carr says Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies received a report that on June 24, 2016, Brooks had attacked another man by striking him about the face and head with a pistol. He was subsequently charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.

Brooks pled guilty to the charge of aggravated battery on Aug. 28, 2017, and was sentenced to probation, with certain terms imposed by the court. Brooks did not comply with the terms as ordered, and a petition to revoke his probation was filed.

On Monday, Brooks admitted to the court that he did not comply with domestic violence counseling previously ordered by the court, which was alleged in the petition to revoke probation. The court then sentenced Brooks to prison. Brooks received the prison sentence because of his failure to abide by the terms as ordered by the court.

The original investigation was conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant State’s Attorney Penny J. Pierson was responsible for the prosecution of this case.
