(Lyon County, KY) – A plane crash in western Kentucky last night has left four people dead, including the pilot. 49-year-old Marty Gutzler of Nashville, 45-year-old-wife Kimberly and daughter Piper, age 9, as well as Piper’s 14-year-old cousin Sierra Wilder, perished in the crash.

Kentucky State Police have not released the name of the lone survivor, a 7-year-old, at the request of the family. The distressed child was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Piper P.A.-34-200 T aircraft departed the Key West, Florida, area with an intended destination of Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. At about 6:30 PM on Friday evening, Kentucky authorities received a 911 call from a citizen reporting that a 7-year-old girl had walked to his home saying she had been involved in a plane crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration claims air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft over Marshall County, Kentucky, Friday evening at approximately 5:55 PM Central Standard time. Contact was lost shortly after the aircraft had reported engine problems. A distress call was reported to the F.A.A. Memphis Center near the area of the reported crash in Lyon County, Kentucky.

Police report that wreckage of the plane was discovered in wooded area just off of US Highway 62 near Suwanee about 5 miles west of Eddyville. The site is just 7 miles east of the Kentucky Dam State Airport located in Marshall County.

The F.A.A. and National Transportation and Safety Board Investigators are expected to arrive at the site today to begin the investigation.
