(MT. VERNON, IL ) — During Monday’s Mt. Vernon City Council meeting, the Council had their second reading of the intergovernmental agreement with Waltonville, Dix and Jefferson County. The state has required all enterprise zones to reapply competitively. The city officials of Mt. Vernon are working cooperatively with the other local governments to expand the pre-existing enterprise zone. Mt. Vernon Mayor Mary Jane Chesley said, “We don’t have a lot of economic development tools in our tool chest and this is one we certainly do not want to lose and we want to partner with other entities to add strength to our area and regional growth.” Also at the meeting, the permission to seek bids for the construction of Lincoln Park projects was approved by the council. The park’s new addition would include tennis courts, a softball field, and a walking trail surrounding the park.
