(Carbondale, IL) — Students at SIU in Carbondale are joining in on protests over failed police indictments. Dozens of them staged a die-in at the student center this afternoon. It comes after grand juries chose not to indict police officers for killing Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and Eric Garner in New York City. Students say the failed indictments send the wrong message and several of them held signs proclaiming that “Black Lives Matter” during the die-in. The failed indictments have sparked protests all across the globe with people speaking out against police brutality and policing efforts in the U.S.
