JOCKEY QUEEN A BOOKTALK

Jockey Lillian Holder wouldn’t take “no” for an answer when told she couldn’t race against men at big-time racetracks simply because she was a woman. To compete like she was born and trained to do, for nearly 50 years she went where she couldn’t be stopped: bush tracks like that in Mt. Vernon at the Jefferson County Fair. You’re invited to hear Lillian’s story as told in the new, nationally released biography Jockey Queen (rowman.com) by Roger Peach, who will be at the C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library for a book talk on Thursday, April 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
