(WAMAC, IL) — Wamac and Centralia police are investigating the shooting Sunday night of a dog in its yard in the 300 block of West 14th in Wamac. Few details are being released at this time, but the dog died from the gunshot. Multiple people reported gunshots in that area around 8:40 p.m. Sunday, and the call about the dog being shot was made around the same time. Police believe this was an isolated incident. While no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting of the dog, 45-year-old Sean M. Meredith was arrested on an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant. Meredith was paroled in December on a 6-year prison sentence for a felony retail theft conviction.
