(SALEM, IL) — Two Mt. Vernon men already serving prison time for armed robberies in Mt. Vernon have now been charged in Marion County court with the 2016 armed robbery of a Wamac liquor store. Steven Collier, 27, and 23-year-old Denzel Haynes, have both been charged with Class X felony armed robbery in connection with the January 2016 armed robbery of Blue Goose Liquor in Wamac. Collier and Haynes are accused of entering the Blue Goose while they were armed with a handgun, taking cash and checks from the clerk before fleeing the store. A customer reportedly entered the store at the time of the robbery and was struck on the head with a pistol by one of the suspects. The robbery was one in a string of armed robberies in the area around the same period of time. Collier has already been convicted and sentenced in Jefferson County Court to 14 years in prison for the January 2016 armed robbery of the Mt. Vernon Jumpin’ Jimmy’s, and Haynes has already been convicted and sentenced to 21-years in prison for the December 2015 armed robbery of Times Square Liquors North in Mt. Vernon. The two will be brought from prison at a future date to be formally arraigned on the charges.
