(NASHVILLE, IL) — A 30-year-old Nashville man we reported earlier was due in court Monday for a final pre-trial hearing in a child sex abuse case has now instead been charged with multiple felony counts of battery. Thomas F. Priester was charged Monday morning with Class 3 felony aggravated battery to a child under the age of 13 resulting in bodily harm, and four Class 4 felony counts of domestic battery. Priester was scheduled for a final pre-trial Monday on Class 2 felonies charging aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 18 and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 13 and 18, with the defendant in a position of trust. His bail on those charges had been set at $75,000. The state elected Monday to not pursue those charges without prejudice and with the possibility of refiling at a later date. Bail on the new charges was set at $30,000, and a jury trial has been continued in that case until January 23, 2017, despite an objection by the defense. Priester was scheduled for a December 14 jury trial on the sex abuse charges, with the state having turned over records from DCFS and the Amy Center in preparation for trial, as well as from St. Clair County where Priester was arrested in February for alleged theft of a motor vehicle in Collinsville.
