Donald Eugene Crocker passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on September 29, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Don lived a full life shaped by hard work, service, and love for his family.
He served in the U.S. Navy before starting a long career in the oil industry, which took him to more than 50 countries. During his career, Don and his family lived in Scotland and Pakistan, making lifelong memories along the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Beulah; his brothers, Bobby Lee and Gary; and his sister, Ruth Ann. He is survived by his wife, Rita Metcalf Crocker; his children, Amy Crocker Terry of Woodlawn, Illinois, Joe (Lindsay) Crocker of Stuttgart, Germany, and Dan (Janelle) Crocker of Fort Wayne, Indiana; his sister, Roberta, and brother, Jack. Don was a proud grandfather to Lacey Hayes, Lexie (Chase) Phelps of Woodlawn, Illinois, Elin Crocker, John Crocker, James Crocker, and Andersen Crocker. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Urijah Hayes-Aaronson, Gunner McCoy, Kash Phelps, and Kolt Phelps-each of whom brought him joy and pride.
A visitation will be held at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon on July 5th. Friends and family may call between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in care of Hughey Funeral Home.
