Carmi, IL – On Monday, 05/18/15, at approximately 8:30 am, a local citizen reported to Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 and Zone 7 Investigations a suspicious package was identified near a dumpster in the parking lot of the Carmi VFW Hall, located at 406 East Main Street. The package was described as a metal box. Following notification, Illinois State Police District 19 Troopers, along with Zone 7 Agents and Carmi City Police, secured the area surrounding the object and notified the Illinois Secretary of State’s (SOS) Bomb Squad. The SOS Bomb Squad arrived on scene and determined the package to be non-threatening and it was subsequently destroyed without incident. Emergency responders have completed their investigation and traffic in the area should return to normal.
