MT. VERNON, IL — A traffic stop Monday in the 3900 block of Broadway in Mt. Vernon resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old juvenile on weapons and drug charges.
According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, around 8:30 p.m. Monday, a patrol officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing the vehicle commit two violations. During the traffic stop the officers made contact with a 16-year-old passenger and reportedly determined the juvenile was in possession of a loaded handgun. An additional search located quantities of cocaine and cannabis. The 16-year-old was arrested on charges of Armed Violence, Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver between 30 and 500 grams, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Deliver between 1-15 grams, and Unlawful Use of a Firearm.
The juvenile was detained at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention facility pending court in Jefferson County.
