MT. VERNON, IL — The second leaf burning period for Mt. Vernon this spring is set for next week, from Monday, May 11th through Sunday, May 17th.
A leaf burning fire is permitted between the hours of sunrise and sunset. No burning shall occur upon any public street, public sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right-of-way or on any manhole cover or upon the property of another without written permission. All types of fires must be physically attended by a person at least 18 years of age at all times.
Burning of any kind may be prohibited during any permitted leaf burning period by order of the Fire Chief due to high winds, dry conditions or other factors.
The next burn period will be during the second full week of October.
