SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Public Health reported at a press conference in Springfield Tuesday the state’s first COVID-19 death.

Gov. JB Pritzker says the woman in her 60s was not in a nursing home.

However, Pritzker also announced 55 more cases have been confirmed since Monday, including 22 at one long-term care facility. 18 patients at the facility in Du Page County and 4 staff members tested positive. All are being quarantined.

In addition to the 21 new cases confirmed at the long-term care facility, a Chicago firefighter has tested positive for the virus and a second positive test has been listed in Clinton County.

Currently, IDPH is reporting 160 cases in 15 counties in Illinois.  Cases have occurred in ages 9 to 91.
