MT. VERNON — The city of Mt. Vernon has announced the next dates for permitted leaf burning this fall and next spring.

The fall 2019 leaf burning periods will be from Monday, October 14 through Sunday October 20. Burning will again be allowed from Monday, November 11 through Sunday, November 17.

The spring 2020 leaf burning periods will be from Monday, April 13 through Sunday, April 19 and then from Monday, May 11 through Sunday, May 17.

Leaf burning is allowed from sunrise to sunset. No burning is permitted on an public street or sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right of way or manhole cover, or on the property of another without written permission.

All types of fires must be attended at all times by someone at least 18-years-old. Burning may be prohibited during these times by order of the Fire Chief due to weather conditions.
