MARION COUNTY — Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon has announced he will seek another term in office.

Cannon has served as Marion County Coroner since 2012 following his first election. Prior to his election he had served as a deputy coroner since 2000, served 22 years in local law enforcement, five years as an Investigator for the DHS Office of Inspector General, two years in Ramadi, Iraq as an International Police Advisor and Camp Commander.

Cannon is retired from the United States Air Force and Illinois Air National Guard. He has deployed stateside several times in response to natural disasters in his current role and has provided assistance to law enforcement and mass casualty operations.

According to Cannon, he holds numerous certifications in death investigations, including a Master’s Certificate from St. Louis University School of Medicine in Medicolegal Death Investigations.

He’s a member of the Illinois Coroners and Medical Examiners Association, as well as the International Coroners and Medical Examiners Association. Cannon says he has investigated thousands of deaths in his career.

He currently serves as Director of Region IV, ICMEA, assisting and advising the Coroners of eleven other counties.
