MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon City Council approved to start the installation of security cameras in higher crime areas of the city at Monday night’s meeting.

Mt. Vernon City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says the process of looking into surveillance cameras started in 2016.

Mt. Vernon City Councilman Donte Moore says these cameras will do wonders for the areas of the city that they are installed.

The city also approved a proposal with Heneghan and Associates, P.C. for final engineering services for the 2020 IEPA Funded Sewer Project for the city. Initial cost of the proposal for the city is just over $245-thousand, but Bechtel says that money will be eligible for reimbursement through the IEPA loan being applied for.
