MARION, IL — A crash involving a car and an Illinois State Police squad car happened around 5:10 Wednesday afternoon on Illinois 148 just north of Gunners Lane in Marion.
According to Illinois State Police, a 34-year-old ISP trooper driving a marked squad car was going south on Illinois 148 approaching Gunners Lane when southbound traffic came to a stop. The trooper stopped behind traffic as 49-year-old Jacqueline Story of Paducah was following the trooper in her car.
Story momentarily looked down to change the radio station in her vehicle, and when she looked up, she saw that traffic had stopped. Story was not able to stop in time and struck the trooper’s car in the rear.
The trooper suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. The trooper was treated and released. The trooper’s name was not released.
Story was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. ISP did not say if the woman was injured in their report.
