CROSSVILLE, IL — Three people were arrested by the White County Sheriff’s Office early Friday morning after dispatch informed Sheriff Doug Maier about a 2016 white GMC pickup that had been reported stolen out of Wayne County and was being tracked by GPS in the Centerville area.
According to a post on the Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page, dispatch told them the truck was now in the Crossville area and said the suspects in the vehicle had attempted to break into a bank in Mt. Vernon and were involved in a pursuit with Mt. Vernon police.
The sheriff located the truck at 4:50 a.m. on a dead-end road at the end of County Road 1200E just South of County Road 1925N.
The sheriff approached the vehicle as a felony stop, with weapon drawn and saw 3 subjects in the vehicle. The sheriff spoke to the driver of the vehicle later identified as a juvenile who was found out to be on parole.
The juvenile driver said they were just road tripping in his uncle’s vehicle. He advised the sheriff he was on parole.
A deputy and the Sheriff transported all three subjects to the White County Jail.
The Mt. Vernon Police Department was notified and was told an investigator would be en-route to interview the suspects and the Department of Corrections would take over custody of the juvenile.
